STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Student leadership/government at Charlemont is made up of the prefecture, the Students' Council and the form monitors.

THE PREFECT BODY

The prefect body is made up of the head boy, the head girl, their four deputies and the other prefects. These persons are selected on the recommendation of members of staff and the outgoing prefect body. The head students are not members of the Board of Management.

The role of the head students and their deputies include:

    1. Meeting with executive Prefect Body
    2. Presiding over the prefect body
    3. Representing students concerns to the school administrator
    4. Maintaining discipline in the school
    5. Conducting themselves respectfully so that they can be good role models to other students
    6. Coordinating the prefect responsibilities
    7. Ensuring that prefects do their jobs of instilling discipline in the general student body
    8. Developing in students an attitude of patriotism and loyalty to school
    9. Ensuring a good relationship between the student body and the student leaders
    10. Meeting with the Principal and Vice Principals regularly to
      discuss issues

Executive Prefects Includes all prefects who are Grade Supervisors. These prefects supervise the general prefect body.

CLASS PREFECTS

    1. They must be present in the form room from 7:30am to direct the students to the area(s) of assembly
    2. hey should take a list of the students present if the form teacher is absent
    3. Monitoring his/her class where possible in the absence of a teacher
    4. Assisting the form teacher in planning form worship
    5. Encouraging the students to observe the school rules
    6. Monitoring the lines at assemble and ensuring that discipline is maintained

FORM MONITORS

Form monitors are selected by their classmates at the start of each new school year. However, the form teacher has the authority to make the final selection.

Form monitors should:

  1. Be a positive role model for his/her classmates
  2. Be in control of the class during the teacher's absence
  3. Be a mediator for peace in the class
  4. Be respected by all his/her classmates as failure to do so will result in punishment of the offenders

THE STUDENTS’ COUNCIL

The Students‟ Council consists of elected student leaders. These members make the views of the students known to the Principal and staff. The student council while overseeing student activities enhances the school spirit, morale and the quality of school life.

Each class has an elected representative on this body. The Council works in the following areas; staff-student relationships, student welfare, curricular and extra-curricular activities, disciplinary matters and fund-raising activities.
