ACADEMIC MINIMUM STANDARDS

GRADES 7 & 8

All students at this level must attain an average of 60% or more in the December or the June Examination to be promoted to the next level. Students whose average is below 60% will be held back until they meet the minimum standard. All students who receive an average below the minimum must attend the Summer school’s Enrichment programme. At the end of the Summer school students who receive 60% or more will be promoted to the next grade and placed on academic probation and must carry out the enrichment actions in Academic minimum standards Rule (1).

GRADE 9

The minimum average for each student to advance to the next level is 60%. The same actions apply to this group of students as for the first group. Additionally, these students must do career counselling. All students at this level choose their career options. In doing so, each student must get the approval of at least six (6) subject teachers before permission to do any option is given.

Students who have consistently done well over the years will be given their first choice of option class. Students who get an average less than 60% for the second time in the academic year must attend Summer School.

GRADE 10

All students at this level must attempt all eight subjects assigned to be promoted to the next level. Failure to attain 60% or more in the December or the March Examination, the students at this level must attend Summer school.

GRADE 11

All students at this level must attempt all eight subjects assigned. Student must pass at least five subjects with 60% or more at the March Examination to be allowed to graduate. All repeaters must do eight subjects and maintain an average of 60%.

GRADE 12

Students at this level must pass at least five subjects with grades 1 & 2 at the CXC CSEC level or equivalent to be accepted in grade 12. The subjects should include Mathematics and English. Students who intend to do Pure Math must do Add Math in grade 11.

GRADE 13

To be readmitted to Grade 13 students of Grade 12 must pass at least 3 subjects at the CAPE level.
